Swimming Sports
Tuesday 28th of February. A notice went home last week with all the details. Below is a quick summary:

  • children to be dropped off at the Aquatic Centre at 8.45am
  • wear house colours, sunhat and plenty of sun block!
  • bring morning tea, lunch and plenty to drink (Please note that there is NO sausage sizzle at swimming sports this year)
  • please pick up children at 2.30pm from the Aquatic Centre
Home Learning
This has been renewed for the next two weeks. Home Learning is an extended link to learning in the classroom and will enhance what children are doing at school. I have changed the name from homework to Home Learning so that children see it as a positive extension to their learning - at home, or indeed wherever they are as they can access their learning online.

Cards for St John's Community
Room 3 have been writing letters for the St John's community and these will be delivered this week. I was very impressed by the heartfelt sadness the children expressed in their letters and I'm sure the St John's community will appreciate the children's messages.

This message came from the people doing the rafting.

The rafting run from Firmin Field  Kawerau, on the Tarawera River , and is based where they train white water paddlers, so there is a walking track that follows the stretch of river from start to finish.
It is Level 1-2 so fairly benign, there are a number of small rapids .We use highly experienced paddlers who work well with children. The rafts are seriously big, and the reality is that the children are lucky to get their paddles in the water, most of the work is done by the staff member steering and they do not get wet, other than their hands.

Week 2 Notices

Parent Interviews : Thursday 9 February: 3.15pm to 6.00pm
To book an interview with your child's teacher please follow this process -
* www.schoolinterviews.co.nz
* parent/teacher interview school bookings
* event code 6w7hp

This is an opportunity for parents to share their aspirations they have about their child, and any other information they want the teacher to know about their child. The interviews are 5 minutes long.

Camp
Please fill in the camp form and send it back to school this week. The medical form can be filled in online. Please find the link when you scroll down to week 1 notices.

Please be assured that the rafting on camp is a low grade for children and that this will be happening on a river near Kawerau. Professional guides will be in the rafts with the children at all times. Parents who are helping and/or transporting on the first day of camp, and who wish to have a rafting experience, are able to go on a separate raft with adults (not on the raft with children) and there will be a $30 cost per person.

Sun Hats
Many children do not have a sun hat at school. Please ensure you child does bring a named hat to school.

No swimming this week.

Bike to School Day

You can bike from home, or for students from outside the area, please get dropped off outside the Arawa Bowling Club in Lytton street between 8 and 8.20am.  Students will be able to cycle or scoot from there to school with adult supervision.  You MUST have a helmet.

Upon arrival, senior students will put their bikes in the Mary Garden area beside Room 1.  Middle school students will put their bikes around the back of Rooms 16/17 and Junior school students will keep their bikes by their classes.

Room 3 and 4 students will place their bikes along one side of the wall beside Room 1 as they will need their bikes to complete a maths activity. Someone will be there to guide you on the day.

Week 1 Notices

Welcome back to school. I trust that you have all had a wonderful holiday and by now I'm sure children are ready to get back to school. I look forward to teaching your child this year, and I encourage parents and family to be actively involved in their child's learning. There will be plenty of opportunities to view and share your child's learning as there will be regular entries on their blogs. Please encourage your child to discuss their learning with you and add a comment about your child's learning when ever possible.

If you have any queries, please email me on brigitn@stmarysrotorua.school.nz

You are able to sign up to this blog so that you receive updates - just add your email to the tab on this blog.

Camp will be happening this term in March. A letter will be sent home in the first couple of days once school starts. Please check all information and return the necessary forms. Each room will be going to camp separately so that children and their teacher have a chance to bond and get to know each other outside of the school environment. Please fill in the medical form below.

Click here to access the online medical form.
