Week 8 Notices

Camp is finally upon us and the weather looks great for our time away. Thank you to all the parents and grandparents who have offered to help us.

Below is information about camp.

  • Please arrive at school by 8.45am
  • Bring all your gear to Room 3. If your parent/grandparent is transporting, leave your gear in the car.
  • Park in the scooter area - the gate on Ranolf Street will be open for you to drive in. The Life Education Classroom will be parked there as well, but there will be plenty of room to park cars there or near the field.
  • If you have medication, bring it to Room 3, clearly labelled and in a clear plastic bag. Give the medication to Mrs Ash who will be waiting in Room 3. Please note: if you have indicated that you take medication then it must be taken on camp.
  • Baking  - a box will be in Room 3. Please place baking in the box.
  • Take note of what you need to bring in your backpack (below). Morning tea, lunch and a water bottle needs to be in your bag. Since it will be hot and sunny tomorrow, wear a sun hat and sunblock.

Home Learning

Mathematics
Maths Whiz for 20 minutes, three times a week. If you have completed the recommended time, try the other activities like challenging another person to a game of maths.

Go to freerice.com and click on the maths subject.

Reading
Read for a minimum of 20 minutes every afternoon or evening. Record what you read on your reading log.

Spelling
Learn the Essential spelling words on the list that you have been told. Remember that these words are used most often in your writing so it pays to learn how to spell them all.

Camp
Read the gear list. Begin to gather the items that you need to take to camp. Let your parents know if you do not have any item you need at the beginning of this week. Maybe you can borrow the item if you give your parents enough time to organise this.

Maori Legends
We will be focusing on a range of legends especially after camp. Find two legends and get familiar with the stories. You will share your favourite one with a small group of students in our class. Over the next weeks, you will have a greater knowledge of legends and you will be able to share these stories with your family as well.

Week 7 Notices

Swimming
We have two more swimming lessons with Henk this week (Monday and Tuesday). Please make sure that you have your togs and towel on both of these days.

Home Learning has been set for this week.

Camp
We have one week to go before we are on camp. Let's hope that the weather eases up for Room 1 who are going tomorrow.

The teachers visited the camp site on Friday afternoon and below is additional information.

  • Life jackets will be worn on the rafts and on the river tubing. The river is well below the marae site and there are steps down to the river, so flooding should not be an issue.
  • When we arrive there will be a powhiri welcoming us on to the marae. Ladies, you do not need to wear a black skirt/dress.
  • After rafting on the first day, we will all be going to the free hot pools nearby. Those parents who are helping on camp or transporting on the first day, bring swimming gear if you would like a swim.
  • The safety of children is paramount so the decision on whether water activities will go ahead will be made closer to the time of each camp.
