Week 5 Notices

This will be my last week at St Mary's and I would like to thank all the children in my class for being such wonderful learners, always striving to better themselves. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all the parents and extended families who volunteer to help in class, with transport or walking to and from events, and helpers on trips. Without your help these events could not happen so my sincerest thanks to all of you.

Shared lunch on Thursday
As this is my last week with the class, it would be great to have a shared lunch on Thursday. Please send along a small amount of food to share and I will order some pizza as well. Any families who would like to join us for lunch are very welcome.

Find a book or article that you enjoy and read every evening. Remember that our Learning Site has Ziptales and other online books to read.

Sustainability 
Over the next two weeks we will be focusing on renewable and nonrenewable energy. Countries around the world are looking at sustainable energy sources. Research more about this topic and make notes on your google drive. You will be able to use these notes when we write about this topic in class.

Mathematics
Complete 3 progressions each week at home.

Week 4 Notices

Pentecost Mass
This will be held on Friday morning at 9am at the church. All families welcome.

Our Cross Country event is on this Friday. Please read the information below. Thank you to those parents who have offered to help transport children. We do require a few extra cars to transport children on Friday. If you can help, please send the form back to school (this was given to each child last week) or email Mrs Nieuwboer. brigitn@stmarysrotorua.school.nz

Annual Inter-House School Cross Country.
Our annual Inter-House school cross country will be held on the afternoon of Friday 26th of May 2017 in the Redwoods Forest. This event is for Yr 3-6 students.

Children need to be assembled in house groups at our school ‘HQ’ near the Redwoods Visitor Centre, Long Mile Road by 12:50pm ready for a briefing.  The first race will be at 1:00pm with the event finishing by 2:30pm.

Children come to school in full uniform and change into PE gear for the afternoon’s events.  For the event children will need:
Running shoes
Polar  fleece jacket /school jersey
A drink bottle, lunch / snacks
Raincoat
Spare set of clothes
Any medication required

To make this a successful & enjoyable event for everyone we require parental assistance both with regards to transport and marshalling on the day.

We will need the following help at various times on the day from parents:
12:30pm Transporting children from school to the Redwoods Visitor Centre
1pm – 2:20pm Marshalling in the forest on the day
2:30pm Transporting those children who catch a bus or require after school care back to school

All other children may be collected by their parents by 2:30pm from the Redwoods.

If you’re available to help with transport we’d really appreciate it.  Please complete the attached form and return to your school office by Thursday 18th May.

If your child catches a bus, attends after school care or you can help with marshalling please indicate this on the attached form & return to school office by Thursday 18th May.

No sausage sizzle for the next 2 Fridays.

There will be no sausage sizzle this Friday and next Friday due to trips.

Request for help

This Friday the 19th of May we are walking children to and from the Sir Howard Morrison Convention Centre to see the JPC show. We require one extra adult helper to walk with us and watch the show. We leave school at 10.10am and will be back at school around 2pm. Please email Mrs Nieuwboer of you would like to help.

Week 3 Notices

We will be going to the JPC production 'Into the Woods' on Friday. The idea is that we will be walking the children to the venue and back to school. However, the weather will play a huge part in whether this happens and the forecast is for rain. I will keep you updated on any changes as they happen.

Home Learning

Well done to all those children who completed their posters and slide shows on packaging. Unfortunately a large number of you had not even started this on the day it was due. Please make sure that you complete the work given as this enhances what you are learning at school. I look forward to seeing all your work on Monday.

Spelling:
The new groups start this week. Go to the Learning Site to see what words you need to learn to spell. Choose 10 words from your list and write them into sentences.

Reading:
Complete a book review on one of your favourite books you read over the next two weeks. Mrs Nieuwboer will give you a template to complete.

Mathematics:
Maths Whizz - at least 3 progressions at home each week.

Lexia:
If you are on this programme, complete at least 15 minutes of Lexia each night. You do not have to complete the book review.

Topic Research:
Look for information relating to the water quality of Rotorua Lake and surrounding lakes and streams. Nitrogen levels are increasing - what is this and why is this an issue?

Week 2 Notices

We have a very busy week with a couple of trips included as well.

Mothers Day gifts on sale in the hall at lunchtimes on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday this week. All gifts are $3 each.

Museum Trip
Tuesday the 9th of May. We leave school at 12.15pm and travel to and from the museum by bus. If any parents are able to help, please contact Mrs Nieuwboer on brigitn@stmarysrotorua.school.nz.

New World Trip
On Thursday the 11th of May, we will be walking to New World supermarket to complete our learning around food nutrition. Children will be checking labels at the supermarket and will be working in groups. We require some extra adult helpers to accompany us as we walk to the supermarket. We will leave school at 11am and return by 1pm (actual lesson will be 11.30-12.30pm). Please let Mrs Nieuwboer know if you can help. Thank you.

Museum Trip for Room 3
